“With the Side B exhibition, Laurent Le Bel-Roux explores the transposition of a sensory perception – sound – to a visual medium. He combines his skills in sound technologies with his artistic practice, blending recording and drawing. The unpredictable sound content collected to create his visual compositions allows him to focus on an intuitive creative process, open to the constraints of what comes his way.
Using a portable recorder, he samples numerous sound sources, which he then translates into a spectrogram. Amplitude, pitch, tone and duration are sound features that influence the visual result of the diagrams created. Integrated into the virtual interface, they become the visual material with which he combines multiple digital manipulations to develop visual compositions with unsuspected content, imbued with sound sources.”
